I am trying to keep in contact with my professor but haven't heard back from her in a couple days and I have a rough cut coming due soon. So my project folder and media files can't reside both on my personal drive? Maybe I understood that incorrectly. I am working on media media composer 5 and I do not have it on my personal computer (only at school). The system created new files but my media is still offline. I deleted the two files within that folder as suggested and relaunched the program. I took a look at the avid mediafiles folder on my personal drive and after the mxf folder I had only one folder titled "1".this is the same in the lanshare.
That should restore your media to an online condition.
You will see the system go into a scanning and indexing mode at this point. On re-launch, the system will detect the missing files and build new ones at the "Initializing Media Streams Manager" stage. If you have an OMFI MediaFiles folder, delete the same two files. Then, from each numerical folder inside the MXF folder inside the Avid MediaFiles folder, delete the two files that identify by type as "MSM Media Database" also identified as "msmFMID.pmr" and "msmMMOB.mdb". And when you move media files around, there are ground rules for Media Folder management:ġ) The "Avid MediaFiles" folder (for MXF media) and the "OMFI MediaFiles" folder (for OMF media if you have any) MUST reside at the root level of the media drive, never inside any other folders or the system will not find the media.Ģ) The folder names must always be the exact factory default names listed above (minus the quotes) or the system will not find the media.ģ) There can be only one of each folder type on any given media drive.Īnd after moving media to different drives and platforms, you must rebuild the media database files. It's important that media files NEVER be written to your system drive, but to a separate drive either internal, external or a RAID array. I'm assuming you have the Media Composer application on your computer, although you have not mentioned that. In your case, you would need to copy the Avid MediaFiles folder to a drive other than your system drive, and the specific project folder gets copied to the master "Avid Projects" folder on your computer. So when you move a project, you must also move the media files as well. The associated media files that are linked to those clips live in a separate folder named "Avid MediaFiles", that in your case lives on the lanshare. Your project files, in other words the project folder, contains the bins, clips, sequences, title clips, etc. I wasn't sure if there is a way to tell avid to look elsewhere for these media files (my drive-I have all the converted footage on there already) or in what way I can remount that files so I can work soley off my personal drive and not the corrupted lanshare. The only was I was able to get the media back online was opening up the lanshare where I originally imported and created my project (and thus avid shut down and I still can't edit).
When I opened up the project off the drive all my bins and edit came up yet all the media was offline. In order to work, I recently transferred my project folder onto a personal hard drive. There has recently been some sort of issue with the lanshare where all of our projects are kept on and as a result everytime I (or other students) access avid the program works for a few minutes then freezes up, making editing virtually impossible. I am working on avid to edit my film for school and are using their facilities.
